Do More Of What Makes You Happy

This drawing and blog is dedicated to the corpy schmorpies (I am a Systems Analyst by day, too). I used a sharpie and gouache for this drawing.

We all have our own passions and inclinations. While some are lucky enough to find their calling before college, some are not so fortunate. I've heard lots of success stories about people who have taken risks and have switched careers after 10 years or so in their own field, and I really admire and applaud these people. I've been in the I.T. industry for 7 years, slowly but surely going up the corporate ladder as I go along. While I like my job, it is not my everything. Perhaps, I didn't want my hard earned years of work and study to go to waste, perhaps I liked the comfort of a stable income. When I was contemplating on trying to switch gears and use my right brain for a living, I really thought about whether I wanted it badly enough to make art my full time profession. My worry is that if my income depended on it, I might get too pressured and it might not be as fun anymore. And that's pretty much what art and music are for me: FUN! :)

Hence, this blog. I want to chronicle my life outside the cubicle--the things I do and create, the places I travel to, the other endeavors that I involve myself in. The ideal thing for me is to be able to work on my calligraphy and illustration part time and still keep my job as an I.T. professional. And as I've said, just because you're a corporate professional, doesn't mean you can't be happy! Just learn to strike a balance and keep doing what you love.

How about you, what makes you happy?
